RILEY’S FIRE: For those who might ask how much fire is burning for the Heat president Pat Riley at 75, president of the Golden State Warriors Bob Myers connected last week’s story about how much Riley was still burning in the ’70s. A few summers ago at the Summer League in Las Vegas, I said, ‘Pat, are you going to eat something?’ “Myers said interview with NBC Sports Bay Area. “That’s how we sat down and it was in the middle of our run [of going to the five straight NBA Finals], and I asked him for advice on things. Pat looked me in the eye and said, ‘There’s nothing more important than winning.’ And somehow I tried to say, ‘Well, what about your family and stuff like that?’ Pat is a great guy and has a great family. But I could almost say he struggled with that part. He was almost like, ‘Well, you know [laughter] . . . victory is important [laughter]. ‘His desire to win is real. It’s not a facade. His motivation, discipline, passion – it’s deep inside. That’s great and that’s great. “
